Guardian Program Basics

We are currently looking for the perfect Guardian Home for a quality puppy.

This is an awesome opportunity for the right person, couple or family. More information is below, as well as an application if you are interested.

We have implemented a guardian program to expand our breeding program while ensuring all of our breeding dogs live happy, healthy, and pampered lives. A guardian gets a quality puppy/dog from doodletimetx at no charge. Our Guardian Program is designed with the dog’s best interest at heart. Guardian homes act as “foster homes” until the terms of our agreement are satisfied. The dog will then be spayed/neutered at the breeder's expense, and all ownership rights are signed over to you! The dog is now permanently all yours!

To be considered for guardianship:

  • Must live within 30 miles of The Colony, TX

  • Families make no breeding-related decisions pertaining to the Guardian dog

  • All other dogs of the opposite sex in the home must be spayed/neutered

  • The Guardian dog must be an indoor pet and be well-socialized with people and other dogs

  • Must feed the dog quality dog food approved by the breeder

  • Adequate exercise is required, and weight must be well maintained to avoid hip issues

  • The Guardian family is responsible for all pet costs that involve owning and taking care of the Guardian dog (grooming, vet bills, food)

  • Must be kept up-to-date on vaccinations & heart-worm treatment

  • All training (house/crate training, basic commands, etc.) is your responsibility

  • We must be informed of any injury immediately and have the right to make decisions regarding vet care for the injury. The Guardian family is responsible for the vet cost

  • We have the best interest of the Guardian dog at heart and never want to remove a dog from their home, but for the dog’s safety if deemed necessary, we reserve the right to relinquish a Guardian dog

  • Frequent communication and updates are a must

  • Males will be retired at 6 years old, and they will be neutered at our expense

Female information:

  • The agreement is for 4 litters of puppies and will begin during the Guardian dog’s 2nd heat cycle

  • When the Guardian dog goes into estrus (heat), the Guardian is required to contact us immediately. An intact female has a heat cycle that lasts between 10 and 21 days every 6-8 months. We may keep a female for 5-7 days while she is being bred. Once she has been bred, she will be returned to and remain with her guardian during her pregnancy (62 days). One week before her due date, she returns to stay with us so we can help her deliver her puppies. She and the puppies will all remain with us while she raises and weans her puppies (6-7 weeks)

  • The Guardian family must not allow the female to be around any intact males (those who have not been neutered) during her heat cycle

  • We pay for all pregnancy-related veterinary expenses and testing
